The wait is ogre: 'Shrek' plays State Theatre in Easton

"Shrek the Musical" follows the basic story of the first "Shrek" movie as Shrek, who just wants to stay alone in his swamp, ends up going on an unlikely journey to rescue a princess from a dragon. The musical re-creates most of the characters and many of the scenes from the DreamWorks movie and retains the movie's sly humor with pop-culture references and plenty of potty jokes. The movie, which was not a musical, featured popular songs such as Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation," Smash Mouth's "All Star" and Neil Diamond's "I'm A Believer" throughout the film. It is based on the 2001 Academy Award-winning movie that starred Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy as the voices of Shrek and his sidekick Donkey. The movie was inspired by the 1990 book "Shrek.
